68 Years: Wood to Wake

As a kid, one of my favorite things–if not the favorite–was time on the lake. When I was eight, I learned to slalom behind the old wooden boat… model year 1957, and the first boat registered in Box Elder County in Utah. I don’t recall the brand, but it had a 75 HP Johnson outboard, and the gas tank was just sitting on the floor. But it did what was needed and led to some great memories.

In 2009, we decided to get into boating as a family and found a gently used Mastercraft from an auction in California. Bought it sight unseen and have been a boating family ever since.

What I find really amazing is the improvement in recreational boats over nearly 70 years.

Here’s our progression from the 2003 Mastercraft X30 to the latest pinnacle in their lineup, the XStar 25.

And one more picture to contrast then and now. 75HP to 630HP Supercharged 6.2L.
